Cuomo disconnects Johnson City Covid State vaccination site

A state-operated Covid-19 mass vaccination center in Broome County is on the verge of being closed.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that the Binghamton University Library Annex site in Johnson City will close next Monday.

Gannett’s former newspaper printing facility opened in mid-January. According to information provided to WNBF News by the Department of Health, the site administered nearly 141,000 doses of the vaccine in its first five months of operation.

Cuomo’s announcement indicated that the state would now “focus on localized vaccination efforts.”

1,832 people were vaccinated at the Johnson City facility on March 8, its busiest day.

When it opened, vaccination appointments were difficult to obtain. But for the past few weeks, the site was open to all who entered and no appointment was necessary.
